Things to keep in mind before embarking on a long biking road trip

May 19, 2022 by Diana Leave a Comment

One of the best ways to discover nature and go back to the roots is to plan a bike road trip. It’s also one of the most enjoyable, stimulating, and engaging ways to see popular places. The best aspect is that it is inexpensive!

There are numerous advantages to joining the road trip, whether you are a seasoned cyclist or just getting started. We’ll discuss the tips to consider while planning your next bike trip to ensure that you enjoy it to the fullest while adding to your exciting travel experience.

Safety and security

Travel is unpredictable and challenging no matter how well you plan. A car accident, theft, or a breakdown are all possibilities. As a result, it is critical to apply for temporary bike insurance in the event of any mishappening to protect your interests and minimize financial losses in the event of an emergency.

Choose your bike wisely

If you’re going to hop on an utterly uncomfortable bike, how can you ever enjoy the ride? There’s nothing worse than being perched on a piece of metal that feels like it was made for someone else and not for you!

So take every precaution and make sure your bike is customized just for you. Remember, there are many options available in the market to suit different types of riders with specific requirements. So be picky about what you want from your bike before actually spending money!

Remember to travel light

You need to pack less that will save you the trouble of carrying unnecessary baggage while travelling. It is a simple concept that is often overlooked by many cyclists. If you’re biking to faraway places and have a couple of bags with you, make sure you carry the bare minimum to avoid any hindrance during your ride.

The more stuff you take with you add up to more weight on your bike and it may cause you to trip, fall or even lose your balance on steep hills. Thus, it is best that when planning to go on a biking trip, one should consider packing lightly and cutting down on non-essentials.

Know your destination

It is highly recommended to notedown the route of your destination apart from the places to visit and explore. Make a list of spots where you will halt and rest followed by service stations, restaurants, motels, fuel stations and medical facilities to ensure comfort and save time and cost.

Pre-service your bike and carry tools and spare

A good trip can get ruined by a breakdown. A pre-trip service will tell you if your bike needs any repairs, and then you need to buy all the necessary tools to fix it with.

Take your bike to a mechanic and ask him what all essential spares would you need to take on your trip for the bike. Every bike has different requirements. A general list might include spare tube, spark plugs, break & accelerator cables, engine oil, etc.
