Yellow Ostrich – Marathon Runner

Yellow Ostrich released a new single today from their upcoming album, Strange Land. I got the chance to see Yellow Ostrich open for The Antlers in Raleigh a couple months ago, and though I was already getting into their music, I fell even harder. To see the energy that the band carried with them on stage was incredible, but to hear the passion behind their music was perhaps even more so. I’m really looking forward to this upcoming album. For now, enjoy this single, “Marathon Runner.” Singer and guitarist Alex Schaff described this track as focusing on “the constant need to figure out what you are and what you want to be.”
Strange Land will be released on March 6th via Barsuk Records, the Seattle label who also works with bands like Death Cab for Cutie, Phantogram, Nada Surf, and more. Schaff spoke more about the rest of the songs on the album, saying “They’re about all those pent-up feelings of anticipation you carry throughout your life and what happens to those feelings when imagination becomes reality, and you see things maybe quite aren’t as magical and easy as you thought they’d be. When your future becomes your present, an explosion happens; that’s where a lot of this came from.”
Oh and last thing — I noticed a comment on G-Eazy’s wall after he posted the interview we did with him that criticized us for not asking who his favorite artist of the moment is and his favorite MC of all time. So I decided to ask him right then and there, on his wall. And you know what he said? His favorite MC of all time is Nas, and right now he’s listening to Rick Ross…and YELLOW OSTRICH. Boom.
