Artists on the Dashboard

As a music blogger, I feel that it is my duty to keep all of you aware of the up-and-coming artists in the industry. The list of rising stars, the up-at-bats, the talent on deck, if you will. So started the monthly feature on Sunset in the Rearview called Artists on the Dashboard, which shines light on three artists to keep on your radar; artists who have shown the talent, the drive, and the willpower to be a star. Keep your eye out for these features, and next thing you know, your friend will be telling you about this amazing new artist, and you’ll be able to say, ‘Dude…I knew about them almost a year ago.’ No more worrying about having to take the time to seem cool, we’ll do all of the work for you. Just be sure to check back every month to see which three artists made the cut.

Another month, and a lot of talent to sort through. Here are the three deserving of the title ‘Artists On The Dashboard’ for this month: Fitz & The Tantrums, Thee Tom Hardy, and The Tallest Man on Earth.

MIXTAPE: Thee Tom Hardy – The Hardy Boy Mystery Mixtape: Secret of Thee Green Magic

Thee Tom Hardy Mixtape

Same kid I blogged about the other day, Thee Tom Hardy is the future. NC hip hop scene is blowing up! First J. Cole, now 9th Wonder’s team (which includes Thee Tom Hardy) seems to be taking over. I’m liking this! Super excited about this mixtape release. Particularly because the producer of the first song, Commissioner Gordon, is a buddy of mine. Check out the mixtape and let me know your thoughts. North Carolinaaaa, raise up!

Thee Tom Hardy – Always in Command

MUSIC VIDEO: “Always In Command” (prod. 9th Wonder) – Thee Tom Hardy

Straight out of Durham, Thee Tom Hardy is making straight hits. Did he really just incorporate Moochie Norris into his flow? Alright, most of you probably don’t know who Moochie Norris is. But I’m from Houston originally and I could talk about the Houston Rockets for years. Years! Moochie was a nobody who joined the Rockets and provided incredible spark off the bench. Perhaps most famous for his fro…which is why the next line in this song is pretty amusing…er…vulgar. Love everything about this song except the line where he makes up a word and then says that’s not a word but we know what he means. You can’t get by with that in hip hop, buddy.

Video directed by Kenneth Price. Incredible work by Mr. Price.

Thee Tom Hardy’s mixtape, The Hardy Boy Mystery Mixtape: Secret of Thee Green Magic drops this Thursday, November 18th.

New Track from Kno (of CunninLynguists)

“Rhythm Of The Rain” (ft. Thee Tom Hardy & Tunji) – Kno

This new track is on repeat for me today. Again and again and again and again, and the words “sick,” “of,” and “it” are not part of my vocabulary at the moment. In fact, I’m not sure they will be for a long time. I’m blown away by the production and the lyricists.

Shout out to Thee Tom Hardy, who I got to meet a couple weeks back. Chill dude, great rapper. Gotta love the local Durham dudes!

Anyway, what do yall think of this track? I’m in need of some comments! Talk back to me!

Thee Tom Hardy – Duke Blue Devils

“Duke Blue Devils” – Thee Tom Hardy

Thank you to my friend Haley and to Earmilk for bringing this song to my attention. A song called “Duke Blue Devils” – might as well be an automatic post. I had heard briefly about Thee Tom Hardy before, as he’s a local rapper and works with 9th Wonder, but to be honest…I’m embarrassed not to have known more since he’s right around the corner from me. I’ll have to dig up more songs and information and get back to yall. Shame, shame, shame on me. [Hangs head low and gets to work researching Thee Tom Hardy.]
