The Strokes are taking over Sunset. I’m okay with that. After posting their new single “Under Cover of Darkness” this morning, I was informed that they have just released their album cover for Angles, to be released March 22, 2011. What do yall think? Is it a crossword puzzle? Is it elementary? Or is it a preview for something multi-dimensional that will blow your mind?
The Strokes released a new song the other day that nearly caused the internet to crash. Well, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but there was a little snafu when everybody tried to download it at once. So what did I do? Gave it a second, remember what my mom taught me – patience is a virtue. It also gave me time to listen to the song over and over again and really think about what I wanted to write. Unfortunately, I’m still not so sure how to sum up this masterpiece in words.
So if you don’t know much about The Strokes, here’s a one-sentence, not going to do them justice recap: These guys released a breakthrough record in 2001 (Is This It) and since then have been giving their fans reason to believe that they were teetering on the edge of demise due to each member’s individual pursuits unrelated to the band. Luckily for any fan of good music, the dubious ones of us have been proved wrong. The Strokes are back with a single that’s just as epic as the gravy on your biscuit. They’re set to release a full album (their fourth), Angles, on March 22nd.
You know why I couldn’t think of how to sum up this song in words? Because I’d be at risk of plagiarizing Julian Casablancas’s own words in this song.
I’ve been out around this town, And everybody’s been singing the same song ten years.
