Just in case your summer was growing a little stale, Slightly Stoopid has dropped the first single “Top of the World” from their upcoming album of the same name, which comes out August 14. With a track that sounds familiarly bad-ass, and probably only has the right to be listened to on the West Coast, driving down the 101 or something equally Californian, the album looks to be a good one. Keep your eyes peeled for a Sunset review of the album!
If you need a Slightly Stoopid refresher before August, check out this sweet free download, too.
If you’ve read any of my prior posts on Aer’s music, it should be fairly apparent that I am a big fan. They have a sound, and a vibe, that I really dig, and that I rarely see. I often find myself comparing them to Slightly Stoopid; they rock the same reggae, hip hop, acoustic vibe sound, and they do so extremely well. And, according to their twitter this morning, SS’s manager actually downloaded their mixtape “Water on the Moon.” That’s pretty damn cool. I truly believe that it’s a matter of time before this duo blows up, and I think their fanbase could grow exponentially when the warm weather rolls around.
Here, they remix a classic from Biggie. Keeping the recognizable guitar riff and beat from Christopher Wallace’s original, they sing (rap?) original verses and a really catchy hook. I can’t say enough good things about Aer–I am a huge, huge fan of their sound, and the sky is the limit for these two in my opinion. They deserve to get noticed, and I’ll be shocked if they don’t.
