There is no doubt that Bon Iver is an extremely powerful, moving artist: I would not hesitate to say that he makes some of the most moving music I have ever listened to.
He will be at Chicago’s Chicago Theater on July 24th and I am lucky enough to have third row tickets. I have never seen him live before but I have not been this excited to see a live act in quite some time.
I was out tonight and got tweeted at, and while I checked twitter on my phone I saw Bon Iver’s tweet about performing “Calgary” on the Colbert Report.
I called my lil sis and told her to record it, and I have to say that it was far better live than I had even expected it.
This is a video of Bon Iver performing “Skinny Love” off of For Emma, Forever Ago. A truly incredible performance, Justin Vernon’s voice is as unique, amazing, and atypical as Neil Young’s.
His guitar is nuts too, really cool. Looks like a steel frame but sounds acoustic.
CANNOT WAIT FOR JULY 24TH GOT DAMN

“Skinny Love (Das Kapital Rerub)” – Bon Iver
I originally saw this on my boy Lou’s site, Welcome to Freshman Year, where I used to write. I was not a fan at first-I’ve been a huge fan of Bon Iver for a long time, but this redub just didn’t do it for me at first. Well, it kept on coming up on shuffle on iTunes, and I started to like it more and more. I’d talk about how unreal Justin Vernon’s voice is, but that’s obvious. Initially, I just didn’t feel Das Kapital’s addition to the song.
Now, however, I see how much they add to the song. The drum beat is really cool and definitely adds a head bobbing, foot tapping element, and the bass that comes in at 1:30 is really unique. I don’t know if you guys will feel this, but it kind of sounds like the sound you make when you blow over an open bottle. I also really like the altered samples of Vernon’s voice that start around the 3:00 mark. Now, not only am a huge fan of this “Rerub,” I’m also a huge fan of Cape Town’s Das Kapital-really makes an amazing track even better.
