Now Playing

NP #6: Jon Waltz, Neeon, Austin Paul

New Now Playing!

Remember when people cared about how many Facebook friends they had? And some people sent out friend requests to strangers just to get their number up? Well, some people do that with music. They thoughtlessly download tons of songs from obscure artists and then brag to their friends about how cool their selections are. Well, yeah, sometimes I’m that guy, but I also make a conscious effort to avoid being that guy. These Now Playing posts act as my filter because about once a month I choose three artists with more than one good song and usually whole projects of quality material. This month is no different. Let’s try to stick with these three artists.

NP #5: Lonely Child, Club Kuru, Leonard Friend

New Now Playing!

I recently tweeted that “Music is a gut feeling,” and that is something I firmly believe. The key task of a music blogger is to listen to a butt load of music (what exactly is a butt load of music?) and then determine which songs are keepers and which are not. Often times I find myself sifting through 10 second snippets of songs, keeping and cutting tracks based off how I feel in those ten seconds. The following artists have made some great songs that really cut the fluff and go straight to the core of what music really is: a dumb and beautiful, instinctual feeling.

NP #4: Kodaline, FrankMusik, Josh Record

New Now Playing!

There seems to be an infinite amount of talent in the world at any given moment. I listen to a lot of music, but I could always listen to more. The job of a music blogger is never truly done, which can be frustrating and exhilarating at the same time. Below are three amazing artists I have recently discovered, and I would like to formally apologize to the thousands of other worthy artists that I have failed to acknowledge.

NP #3: The Colourist, Lanterns, Freedom or Death

Sometimes I think I take the Internet for granted. Looking through the bands chosen for this “Now Playing,” I’m realizing how much the Internet has contributed to my music selection. This truly is a global affair–created all thanks to the vast connectivity granted by the web. Below are three great artists from the United States, Australia, and Canada, respectively.

NP #2: MNEK, BESTiE, and Thumpers

I did the first NP feature last month. Well, I didn’t know exactly what it was going to be last month. But now, I’ve decided it will be a recurring feature because it’s just a great way for me to introduce some exciting, new acts I’ve discovered during my excursions through the Internet (sorry if the word “excursions” makes you feel uncomfortable).

Now Playing: Eliza and the Bear, Tel Aviv, and Pale

Over the past few days, I’ve been compiling songs for the next Tape Tuesday. Yesterday, I visited SoundCloud, which turned out to be both a good and bad idea–good, because there I discovered the three talents below, and bad, because it reminded me just how much music is out there. I mean, that’s the crux of what music blogging is: the attempt at finding diamonds in the rough and exposing them to people who tend to like your diamonds. Sometimes it’s just frustrating knowing that there are so many diamonds and so much rough. That probably sounds weird, but it’s true. As for the tunes below, I was honestly just way too excited to share them with you to wait until TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2013.
