If you’ve read any of my prior posts on Aer’s music, it should be fairly apparent that I am a big fan. They have a sound, and a vibe, that I really dig, and that I rarely see. I often find myself comparing them to Slightly Stoopid; they rock the same reggae, hip hop, acoustic vibe sound, and they do so extremely well. And, according to their twitter this morning, SS’s manager actually downloaded their mixtape “Water on the Moon.” That’s pretty damn cool. I truly believe that it’s a matter of time before this duo blows up, and I think their fanbase could grow exponentially when the warm weather rolls around.
Here, they remix a classic from Biggie. Keeping the recognizable guitar riff and beat from Christopher Wallace’s original, they sing (rap?) original verses and a really catchy hook. I can’t say enough good things about Aer–I am a huge, huge fan of their sound, and the sky is the limit for these two in my opinion. They deserve to get noticed, and I’ll be shocked if they don’t.

A few minutes ago, Brenton Duvall threw up a status on facebook: “Get 100 people to like this in the next 30 minutes and I’ll drop a little remix I just made with Notorious BIG and Closing Time. Spontaneity, bitches.” Well, needless to say, those 100 likes happened very, very quickly. The status went up 22 minutes ago, and about 250 people have liked it already.
People expect big things out of each track Brenton drops. Usually you hear “oh i’m so excited for his new mixtape!” about an artist. With Brenton though, every track he delivers is so catchy that just one song from him is enough to get me stoked upon each new release.
So, when I got an inbox from him with a link to this track, I was immediately excited to download the track. Brenton always delivers, and I always have huge expectations from his work. He never disappoints.
Here, he takes Semisonic’s “Closing Time” (featured on Straight Talk Sunday) and takes Notorious B.I.G.’s classic “What you Want?” acapella. He puts a unique twist on the “Closing TIme” instrumental, adding a certain meanness to the guitar riff, and some great synth and drums over the top.
I’d say something about Biggie’s acapella, but if you don’t know that every acapella Biggie ever laid down was an instant classic, you are a lost cause.
Biggie Smalls the rap genius/ I keep the glock by the penis

Curren$y is the ringleader of the #Jets crew, kind of like Wiz has the Taylor Gang. His swag is effortless, his flow is crisp, and this is perfect to listen to when you’re just running things like a boss. Hit the jump for the full tracklist and download link.

The entire album that this next track is off of, “The Crash Album” by DJ Moondance, is one of the best mashup albums I’ve ever heard. He doesn’t just mash track A and B, rather he takes elements from each song and puts them together. This is my favorite cut off of the album. Effortless swag.
“All-American Party” – DJ Moondance

Chuck Inglish productions are always dope, and with three of the slickest flows over this one, you know it’s going to be nuts. Extra crispy flow from Chip, Spitta, and Sean on this.

I’m very on and off with Wale. Absolutely hated his last album, but I am definitely a fan of his ability to flow, which is really accentuated on this track. Plus, I love Aston Martins, so swag.

I was stoked when I first heard this track because I was already a big fan of the song “Walking on a Dream” by Empire Sun. That combined with Wiz, I knew it was going to be dope.
“The Thrill” – Wiz Khalifa
Wake up drunk, go to sleep fucked up
Just some classic, heavy hitting, laid back Lil Weezy. Nothing’s better.
“Lighting Up My Lalala” – Lil Wayne
It’s, Little Wayne Imma shine in the rain/ Now nothing gets cleared without me signing my name/ I’m just, headlining the game/ Won’t stop till I’m/ A Rodding the game, they riding the bench

Dream Big, Swag Out
I’m still in a hangover from the Best Day Ever, and the fralbum is all I’ve been listening to recently. Last night, Big Z hit me up about this new remix of Mac’s final track on the fralbum, “BDE Bonus.”
I didn’t make the beat or anything, I just added a Biggie verse and a couple synth parts
Regardless of how similar it is to the original, I really like the Biggie verse that Z chose to use, and the addition of Z’s piano riff is understated and adds a really nice quality to the song.
If you have yet to see my full review of Best Day Ever, you should definitely head over to this post and read up. This is a quick excerpt, from my review of the original BDE Bonus track.
“I immediately recognize the opening sound from the intro of the “Donald Trump” video. This is some of my favorite production on the tape, and I would listen to this a lot even if it were just an instrumental. Really awesome vibe to it. It has the same acapella from Best Day Ever, and it makes me wonder how they chose which one would be a bonus and which one would be on the tape. I know that I would have had a really difficult time deciding, because I absolutely love both versions. This is an immediate standout to me. Shout out to ID Labs for killing it on this tape.
I ain’t just an average Joe/ Way above the average flow/ Boy my life is Most Dope
