[Download Mixtape] Tape Tuesday: CDs for a Broken Record

New Tape Tuesday!

I feel like everyone numbs themselves to something. It’s like Louis CK said on Conan last September cell phones are a perfect way of subconsciously ignoring true and real and beautiful feelings. So I set out to make a mixtape to draw out those emotions and prevent any possibility of numbness. If this were an episode of Friends, “CDs for a Broken Record” is “The One Where Every Song Kills.”

“I’ll be your one and only,” every time you meet someone downtown

  1. Ricky Eat Acid – Inside your house; it will swallow us too
  2. Raury – Bloom
  3. Emily King – Distance

Bonus!

Like I did with Welcome to Summer, I made a trailer for this Tape Tuesday. It really has nothing to do with the mixtape, but I thought it was a funny idea, and I executed the idea just okay.

[Download Mixtape] Tape Tuesday: Arcadia

New Tape Tuesday!

There are so many ideas floating around at all times. Some ideas peak your interest, and others just sort of drift off into the ethos. Higher education means focusing your attention on the ideas that interest you, because otherwise it is so easy to get lost in higher thought. “Arcadia” might seem like a really pretentious name for a mix, and that’s because it totally is. But it derives from this idea I discovered that interested me (apparently, during ancient Greek times Arcadia represented a pastoral utopia). The mix itself is an epic, 22-track adventure with artists ranging from NZ export Lorde to Chicago’s own Vic Mensa. Hopefully, listening to it will inspire an idea–or even the drive to seek understanding–or maybe it will simply act as an escape. Maybe these songs will take you to your own personal utopia.

P.S. The mix features three different pieces of cover art, each representing a different part of the tape.

  1. Attu – Don’t Sleep
  2. Twyaen – Keep on Waiting
  3. Drake – Come Thru (James Blake Remix)
  4. Dom Kennedy – After School
  5. Retro Culture – Let’s Make It Work
  6. Skizzy Mars – Summer11
  7. Lorde – Ribs
  8. Wet – Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl
  9. PARTYNEXTDOOR – Break from Toronto
  10. FKi – We Might (ft. Natasha Mosley & Alkebulan)
  11. Hot Sugar – Erica (ft. The GTW)
  12. Travi$ Scott – Hell of a Night
  13. Hozier – Take Me to Church
  14. SNCKPCK – Mexico (ft. Yuno)
  15. Mutual Benefit – Advanced Falconry
  16. Vic Mensa – RUN! (ft. Thundercat)
  17. RAC – Tourist (ft. Tokyo Police Club)
  18. Lincoln Jesser – We’ll Be Fine
  19. Joe Goddard – Taking Over
  20. Night Terrors of 1927 – Young and Vicious
  21. Lontalius – For The Ideas (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)
  22. Mzwétwo – I’d Go Back On My Heart

Tape Tuesday: Ghosting

There are many definitions for “ghosting.” That’s why I chose it as the title for this mixtape. Ghosting is kind of everything right now. Tomorrow on election day (crazy) people will attempt to cast “ghost votes.” As the temperature gets colder and colder, we’re starting to see the water vapor we breath (also this). That’s ghosting. Most importantly, however, in college, it can be incredibly difficult not to feel like a ghost. Dragging your tired feet from class to class in silence and getting lost in a mob of your talented peers. That is ghosting, and over the past few weeks I’ve been doing a lot of that–just going through the motions without truly experiencing them. It’s a problem, and this tape really isn’t the solution. Instead, it is a peek into a day in the life of a ghost.

Oh baby, are you free now? Still living for the weekend?

  1. T0W3RS – Scout
  2. Lincoln Jesser – Silver Haze (ft. Kyle)
  3. The Zolas – Knot in My Heart
  4. Pear Shape – The Coca Cola Kid
  5. Alice Jemima – By Your Side
  6. Tim Myers & El May – Me & My Friends
  7. The Lighthouse and the Whaler – Chromatic
  8. Lukas Graham – Drunk in the Morning
  9. Junica – The Dream
  10. Theme Park – Ready for the Floor (Hot Chip Cover)
  11. Mikky Ekko – Pull Me Down (Prod. Clams Casino)
  12. From The Airport – Colors
  13. Ofei – London
  14. Benjamin Francis Leftwich – In the Open
  15. Neighbors – Diamonds
  16. Yellow Ostrich – Ghost

Lincoln Jesser – Silver Haze (ft. Kyle)

This is my kind of song. The production is smooth and simple and perfect for Lincoln Jesser to croon over. Kyle (also known as K.i.D) adds a short but crucial verse that, I think, takes the slow jam to the next level. I believe both of these artists are singed with Indie-Pop, which is a great up-and-coming independent label that also features Sunset favorites Chris P and Dj Carnage. Honestly, one of my favorite songs of the year right here. Shout out to the beat drop just before Kyle’s verse.

Too damn tired of moving fast, let’s stay here and watch the world.
