Kwabs – Cheating On Me (Tom Misch Refix ft. Zak Abel)

Kwabs_3044653k

Amidst the rise of electronic music, there is also burgeoning demand today for stripped back music that highlights beautiful vocals. Several English artists have risen to fame through the power of their voices, most notably Adele and Sam Smith. But there is a young group of London-born talent that is quickly gaining attention in the music world, and today I’ve stumbled across a collaboration by three rising English stars that is absolutely stunning. This song, “Cheating On Me” was originally released this year by Kwabs, a 25 year old singer-songwriter who has been known to blend electronic influences with soul, jazz, gospel and R&B. It was then refixed by Tom Misch, a London-based producer, and Zak Abel, a London-based singer, pianist and guitarist. Like Kwabs, Abel is known for his soulful stylings and simply stunning vocal abilities.

The story of this song is really sad if you listen to the vocals, but I have to be honest, there’s something exciting about this. It excites me to hear all of this talent together on one song. Three guys who are all so young yet making something that sounds so defined and mature is invigorating for a music fan. I can only hope that these three continue to work together – this is truly beautiful.

our love is like a fading melody, a song i should have sung, a note i should have reached

[Album Review] Kwabs – Love + War

Kwabs Love War

Some artists are just meant to be stars and the British artist Kwabs is one of the best examples of this. There are many great singers out there, but the real test is combining powerful vocals with just as good music. Although Kwabs has released a few EPs and has even collaborated with everyone’s favorite electronic duo Disclosure, now is his time to shine. Kwabs’ debut album, Love + War, was the first big test and it’s one that won’t be forgotten. Kwabs has managed to fuse his soulful voice with a sound that will speak to new and old fans.

Love + War begins with some of the catchiest tracks you’ll hear this year. The opening/title track is a powerful, dance-worthy track that’ll get listeners moving. The rest of the album definitely does not fall short of upbeat tunes with other addictive tracks such as, “Fight For Love”, “My Own”, “Look Over Your Shoulder” and plenty of others. It also has the hit everyone has most likely heard by now, “Walk”, which never gets old. These easily listenable tunes show that Kwabs is much more than just a big voice, rather, he has the edginess to create songs that are unforgettable and actually fun to listen to.

The album may have a lot of big pop tracks, but there’s still some beautiful moments where good beats aren’t the big focus. Kwabs does has a soulful, gorgeous voice that should be recognized and this is beautifully shown in the calming track “Perfect Ruin”. This particular song is haunting, soothing, and displays pure emotion.”Forgiven” is another song on the album that is incredibly powerful and shows that side of Kwabs that is simply admirable. It’s filled with passion and flawless vocals, two elements music fans can always appreciate.

Overall, Love + War is a beautiful piece of work that music lovers should not sleep on. It’s filled with signature catchy pop tunes, but also has a taste of pure soul. It has a little bit for everyone and is an album that can be listened to all the way through, something that is sometimes hard to come by. At this rate, Kwabs is bound to explode and it’s very well-deserved after making an album this great.

Love + War is out now and one of the wonderful tracks “Layback” can be streamed below.

Kwabs – Something Right

kwabs

Kwabs sure has something up his sleeve with his new tunes and it’s clear to see with the latest addition “Something Right” . It’s definitely an extra spice that he also got a bit of help from another talented fellow SOHN , who produced the track. This earth shattering and electric sound is bound to give you tingles down your spine. On top of that, Kwabs continues to give us chills with his very big voice. This one is just a great win for our ears, listen to the song below and get swept away.

Listen While You Work: 6.0

ListenWhileYouWork6_2

Daylight Saving time always sneaks up on me. Every year, twice a year, it sits there on my calendar, but it seems as though my eyes have trained themselves not to notice it. So I thank god every time it comes around that my mom still knows me well enough to know she needs to remind me. Sure, I have devices that automatically update themselves (though now I sometimes wonder why the heck my wall clock, microwave and stove wouldn’t know to update themselves…like come on, it’s 2014!…what?), but it’s still worth knowing that there’s going to be a significant change in your days.

Everybody always says the one in the spring time is better. Spring forward. The sun stays out longer. The warm weather is on its way. Yeah yeah, you lose an hour of sleep, BUT IT’S WORTH IT.

This year, I’m ready to spring forward. I’m ready for longer days, new beginnings, and refreshed motivation. I’m starting a new job and am excited about it.

This latest Listen While You Work playlist stands for finding your new beginnings. Seek motivation. Chase your passions. Work for a reason. Let this be your soundtrack.

10 Indie Songs That Help Me Relax

slowitdown

Sometimes I get this feeling that my life is speeding ahead in the fast lane and all I can do is try to step back and beg to slow it down. My mind will go a mile a minute while my body stands still, leaving me victim to many sleepless nights. The best I know to do is put on some music (some choose TV, I tend to choose music or a good book) and try to lose myself in that narrative rather than my own. I’m in one of those places right now, so here’s my best attempt to slow my roll. Some of the songs are really slow and minimal, others are a little bit upbeat (because too slow and life can find itself getting too heavy). Soundtrack after the jump.
