Every year, Comic Relief, a charity based in Britain, hosts a telethon for its Red Nose Day event, aimed to raise awareness and cash for hunger in Africa. This year, they got a boost from award-winners Sam Smith and John Legend, who recorded a beautiful duet version of Smith’s “Lay Me Down” to help promote the cause.
This year, Red Nose Day is Friday, March 13th. If you are able, please consider donating.
Have you ever experienced one of those breakthrough moments where you feel like FINALLY you’ve reached what you’ve been trying to get to for so long? I had one of those today. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been in a funk for a while now – just not really feeling like myself. Work hasn’t been exciting me, and I’ve been letting that affect my personal life. But I turned 27 yesterday and I told myself that 27 is going to be better than 26. And I woke up this morning, and somehow I just felt giddy. I’ve been cheery all morning, and a big part of it has been fueled by the music I’ve been listening to. So I wanted to share 10 songs that I’m playing on repeat today (some new, some old). I don’t usually get into remixes or heavy beats, but I’m feeling it today, so why the hell not! Let the beat build!
From first glance, the name Kenton Dunson may not sound familiar to you. Well, that’s most likely the case, as it was for me when I first spotted this joint. Everyone knows the famous song by Adele, Rolling In The Deep. If you remember last month, John Legend created a masterful cover of her song which was mostly an acapella. Kenton Dunson adds his own style to the song remixing John Legend’s cover adding a piano based beat in addition to Kenton’s awesome lyrics. Powerful song. Download link below. I’ve also included a little bonus, Rolling Stone (which is also awesome) from Kenton that dropped the same day as Rolling In The Deep. Enjoy!
Side note: If Kenton is behind the boards on this one, well played my man!
Consequence’s song “Whatever U Want” is remixed by the G.O.O.D. Music team (or a large chunk of it, anyway). On the remix: Kanye West, Common, John Legend, Kid Cudi, and Big Sean.
“Slideshow” – T.I. ft. John Legend
This isn’t the official video, but Gifted Talents put this together and it’s pretty touching. I’d love if it had a John Legend showing, but since it doesn’t…I’ll focus on the good, which includes the uplifting image of T.I., the “We Will Miss You” signs at a T.I. concert (for those who don’t know, he’s spending some time behind bars), and the memory I have from a T.I. concert at Duke that was quite possibly the best night of my entire time at Duke. Shout out to Hoolie, Nev, Kels, Spitty, Brasco, and Killa. What a night.
MUSIC VIDEO: “Heartbreaker” – MSTRKRFT ft. John Legend
Set in a run-down Los Angeles 99 cent-type store, this video is a stylish visual story about two young lovers who find a moment of transcendence amidst the decay and commerce.
This is great.
