One of my most anticipated moments of the Grammys last night was a performance by Kendrick Lamar. I did zero research going into the performance, so I don’t know if it was expected that he would perform alongside Imagine Dragons, but nevertheless, I was not expecting it in the least. The outfits and choreography were pretty strange (looked a lot like a scene from Breaking Bad), but Kendrick went off on his verses, and Dan Reynolds from Imagine Dragons was quite the emphatic performer. I appreciated it.
I also appreciate how quickly the Internet minions released a stream of the new remix (sans a couple verses, but I’ll take what I can get) on both SoundCloud and Spotify. Enjoy both below, and if you’re as curious as I was about what Kendrick is actually saying during that nervous breakdown of a verse, read the lyrics here.
Positivus truly is a festival like no other. Set a brief drive away from Latvia’s capital city of Riga, in Salacgriva, the festival is a beautiful combination of all of the elements we’ve come to love from frequenting both small indie festivals, and the more renowned festivals like Primavera and Glastonbury. Featuring a wonderfully diverse line-up including Sigur Ros, The XX, Jack Beats, Tom Odell, Michael Kiwanuka, Two Door Cinema Club, Imagine Dragons, C2C, Darwin Deez and John Grant – amongst many others. This Tape Tuesday features an eclectic assortment of music. It starts out with probably the best opening track from any album this year. Then, it moves into the endlessly catchy title track (kind of) by tree, only to be taken up a notch with the strangely unknown Skizzy Mars track, “Meant for Me,” which I think is one of his best songs yet. After another relatively unknown track, the mix takes a more folksy tone with a Matt Longo track (thanks to an email from him, which I almost didn’t open). Leading up to the interlude (edited by yours truly), the songs become more indie rock. Each song in this middle section of the mix is uniquely catchy. At least, I think so. ‘We are the universe.’ then ends with two haunting tracks from powerful female vocalists followed by an intense love (but also kind of hate) song that will make you want to square dance or some shit.
No sun revolves around you only, how could you think that you’re lonely? Our universe is vast but gravity will hold you back and overcoming obstacles is easy when you got control.
