Daylight Saving time always sneaks up on me. Every year, twice a year, it sits there on my calendar, but it seems as though my eyes have trained themselves not to notice it. So I thank god every time it comes around that my mom still knows me well enough to know she needs to remind me. Sure, I have devices that automatically update themselves (though now I sometimes wonder why the heck my wall clock, microwave and stove wouldn’t know to update themselves…like come on, it’s 2014!…what?), but it’s still worth knowing that there’s going to be a significant change in your days.
Everybody always says the one in the spring time is better. Spring forward. The sun stays out longer. The warm weather is on its way. Yeah yeah, you lose an hour of sleep, BUT IT’S WORTH IT.
This year, I’m ready to spring forward. I’m ready for longer days, new beginnings, and refreshed motivation. I’m starting a new job and am excited about it.
This latest Listen While You Work playlist stands for finding your new beginnings. Seek motivation. Chase your passions. Work for a reason. Let this be your soundtrack.
Sometimes I get this feeling that my life is speeding ahead in the fast lane and all I can do is try to step back and beg to slow it down. My mind will go a mile a minute while my body stands still, leaving me victim to many sleepless nights. The best I know to do is put on some music (some choose TV, I tend to choose music or a good book) and try to lose myself in that narrative rather than my own. I’m in one of those places right now, so here’s my best attempt to slow my roll. Some of the songs are really slow and minimal, others are a little bit upbeat (because too slow and life can find itself getting too heavy). Soundtrack after the jump.
Ella Eyre knows how to make music I like. When she’s in the studio, she’s specifically making music for me. This is a hit waiting to happen, and it seems like this is her first single off of her debut album. Who knows nose, but what I do know is that this is worth a listen.
You guys. It’s warm outside. The times of sweatshirts and boots are officially behind us in favor of shorts and Sperrys, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m currently sitting on my porch, taking in this beautiful Ihacan weather (part-time residents don’t see it very often) and got the itchin’ to write about some music. So I texted Arjun and forced him to tell me how he finds so much awesome stuff and, after some digging, I came up with this.
So apparently “Waiting All Night” was, up until this week, the #1 song in the UK (dethroned by “Get Lucky”), and beautifully put together by drum-and-bass band Rudimental with accompanying vocals from Ms. Ella Eyre, here. Thank Based God that Ella decided to slow it down a bit and add some strings, because this girl can SING. I don’t really know anything about her, but I do know that I will let you guys know as soon as I find some more music of hers on these Internet streets.
