Here’s the second cover today of Daft Punk and Pharrell‘s “Get Lucky.” While Daughter created a slow, sensual cover of the original track, George Barnett recreated the song from scratch and videotaped himself doing it all along. It’s even got some fun production built in, which makes for a fun experience to watch. I almost feel a bit like I’m seeing George perform live – his energy is contagious. You can’t hate a guy for shaking the eggs with determination. Alright, so that’s two covers that I’m a fan of. I might even like this version more than Daughter’s just because you can see the entire making of the remix. (And if this pattern of good covers continues, I promise to make a list-version post about them so I can rank them.) I already loved George Barnett a LOT, but he just took it up one more notch. Keep going, mate.
Anything that includes Daughter these days is stunning. Whether it’s a Sound Remedy remix of a Daughter song or today’s cover wherein Daughter gives Daft Punk and Pharrell’s new hit solo their best shot, pretty much everything they touch turns to gold. This cover surfaced when Daughter visited BBC Radio One Live Lounge this past weekend. It’s incredibly sexy, and while it’s a ballsy move to try to cover the hit single, Daughter did it with class. Let’s just hope others don’t try to hop on the train and butcher the song altogether. As for Daughter, The trio from the UK is covering all of the bases, and their popularity seems to be growing at a rapid pace for all the right reasons.

If you’ve got a set of ears, you’ve probably heard everybody buzzing about the upcoming Pharrell and Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories, out May 21 via Daft Life Limited, an imprint of Columbia Records. All for good reason, too. Daft Punk, the electronic duo who dominate synthpop and house music, is best remembered for their costumed disguise on or off stage and their hit singles “One More Time,” “Harder Better Faster Stronger” and “Digital Love.” Oh and Pharrell? Sure, he’s the guy from N.E.R.D and he’s produced a shit-ton of hit songs out there, but we must not forget that he is also the genie who sat next to Snoop
Dogg Lion back in 2003 and sang that falsetto “Beautifullll, I just want you to know, you’re my faaaavorite girl” in a voice too pretty to be true. So what happens when you bring these forces together?
Random Access Memories. And a whole lot of buzz. Luckily, we’ve got a preview of their first single, “Get Lucky,” and it’s seeming like it’s going to be worth the hype. It sounds like classic Daft Punk and Pharrell’s voice is still on point. Oh and check out those outfits. For more visuals of the new outfits, hit the jump. They’re designed by Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent. Pretty. Fucking. Fly. It might be time for me to give birth to a costumed alter-ego.
The group has released the full single. Go stream/purchase it HERE on iTunes. They have also released a video from Pharrell explaining the process of working together. Watch the video after the jump.
So, I finally realized the beauty of using sets on SoundCloud. This format will make it waaay easier for you guys to stream Best Five Dance from now on. I mean, just press play once and it’s game over.
Opportunity dances with those already on the dance floor.

For many of us, this may very well be the coldest weekend of the winter (so far.) Chicago finally got some snowfall, and I realized once again the joys and woes of snow. It’s funny how as a kid, snow was seriously the best thing ever. It meant the possibility of no class. It meant hours of hurling snowballs at your friends and girls you had a crush on. It meant writing your name in pee all over your neighbors yard (well, it still means that.) Now, all it means is shoveling and bad traffic. For those living in warmer climates, I feel bad for your childhoods but I guess at the end of the day, you won. For errbody else: don’t get left out in the cold, heat it up this weekend with today’s Friday At Five. Bring it, snow.
1. “Heads Up (The Glitch Mob Remix)” – Bassnectar
2. “Reaching Out (Fred Falke Remix)” – Nero

5. “Something About Us (Cherokee Remix)” – Daft Punk
Just got this submission in my email. Wow. This is an awesome cover of a Daft Punk song. It’s not that this song sounds much different, but it’s turned into a bit more of an electro-dance mix. It seems to be broken down into sections, each of which adds a new element of surprise, similar to the original. What makes it stand out, though, is that it seems to pick up the pace a bit more than the original version, and thus makes it a bit more complex. Charles I keeps you guessing and entertained as he does the unthinkable: successfully takes a Daft Punk hit to the next level.
