Have you ever experienced one of those breakthrough moments where you feel like FINALLY you’ve reached what you’ve been trying to get to for so long? I had one of those today. I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve been in a funk for a while now – just not really feeling like myself. Work hasn’t been exciting me, and I’ve been letting that affect my personal life. But I turned 27 yesterday and I told myself that 27 is going to be better than 26. And I woke up this morning, and somehow I just felt giddy. I’ve been cheery all morning, and a big part of it has been fueled by the music I’ve been listening to. So I wanted to share 10 songs that I’m playing on repeat today (some new, some old). I don’t usually get into remixes or heavy beats, but I’m feeling it today, so why the hell not! Let the beat build!
Believe it or not, I still have people asking me if I have any suggestions for new music they should listen to (this happens very frequently, in fact). Perhaps it’s uppity of me to find this silly, but I’ve made it pretty well known amongst my circle of family and friends over the past five years that I absolutely love discovering music and have created a music blog as a portal to share that music. With the emergence of softwares like Spotify, it’s admittedly harder to get people to come to a blog to sort through the curated music collection, when they could just use the portal that’s downloaded onto their computer to press play and let the technology do the rest. But for the elite music seekers out there (is it cool to call us that?), we all know that not all of the gems are on Spotify. Most times, though, it’s on SoundCloud. So that’s the reason I continue to make these Listen While You Work SoundCloud collections. It’s just too good to ignore. And if we have to be spending so much time at work, we might as well make that time not just worthwhile, but enjoyable.
Enjoy this episode. I started it a long time ago, but just finished it today, so it’s actually kind of fun for me to go back and re-listen to some of the old picks that I haven’t heard in a while.
Do you ever feel like you’re living inside a video game? (Stop it. This is not a Lana Del Rey reference.) Hurdles (hangovers), slides (sunny Saturdays), monsters (mean girls), achievement coins (paychecks)…this list could go on, but I think I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination.
Blackbird Blackbird (a San Francisco neighbor!) released a new song the other day that confirms that we might be living within a video game. Such cool electronic noises and a backdrop of lo-fi vocals that merely act as background music to the blips, claps, and bleeps that make up the core of this song. Such a cool sounding song.
