AlunaGeorge has been quiet since their hit “I Know You Like It” was on basically every radio station last year, but they’re ready to take a new turn with their talents. Everyone knows by now that Aluna’s angelic vocals mesh with George’s beats like honey and tea, but they’ve got so much more in them and they’re ready to share it with the world. “I’m In Control” is a smooth, slightly more mature sound for AlunaGeorge and there’s even an added kick with a feature from Popcaan. It also wouldn’t be an AlunaGeorge track without a funky, dance-worthy vibe which is exactly what it’s got. Listen to “I’m In Control” below and keep your eyes peeled for their upcoming album this year.
2015 came and went, some albums gave us chills, others made us want to party like it’s 1999, and then there were ones that just never seemed to arrive at all. While Adele made her surprising reappearance into the music world, Frank Ocean was probably off on an island far, far away laughing at us all as we impatiently wait for his sophomore album. He was most likely chillin’ alongside Rihanna and Kanye West, who have also been taking their precious time to release their next albums. Before we get too bitter about this, it’s important to think about all the great works of art that are likely to flood our ears in 2016. Here’s a list of albums that will (hopefully) arrive in the new year and fill our musical needs.
The wait is officially over, because ZHU has made his triumphant return. Earlier this week, the mysterious producer posted a link to a brand new website, with scrambled letters in the background and nothing but the banner, “Genesis Series.” Rumors ran rampant, as people speculated whether it was the elusive producer’s next album, a brand new live concept, or something completely different.
Since exploding onto the scene in 2014, ZHU has continued to remain anonymous, forgoing all opportunities with press or any personal appearances in favor of letting his music speak for itself. A year later, it is safe to say that his debut EP, The Nightday, spoke volumes about dance music on its way to over 50 million plays, making ZHU one of dance music’s most promising, up-and-coming talents.
Today, the illustrious producer finally unveiled the first track of his Genesis Series project, a collaboration with AlunaGeorge titled “Automatic.” Smooth, sexy string sequences welcome you into the track in the opening seconds, before peeling back the curtain to unveil a bubbly, complex bass line, deep, groovy synths, polished piano chords, and even a sexy saxophone solo against AlunaGeorge’s silky, sultry croons. This one is going straight into the “bedroom” playlist, because it is just oozing sex.
After AlunaGeorge stole our hearts with their debut album Body Music last year, it was clear they were here to stay with their catchy pop tunes. It’s been a minute since we’ve heard new material from these darlings but the time has yet again arrived and let’s just say, it’s something to be very excited about. Their new track “Supernatural” gives that familiar AlunaGeorge sparkle but also manages to show that this duo is simply growing. It’s addictive and hey it’s somewhat fitting to the month of October with its supernatural vibes. Listen to the tune below.
Some things just happen to be on fire and this remix of AlunaGeorge’s amazing tune “Best Be Believing” just happens to be a perfect example of that. Ta-Ku takes an already addictive track and makes it a bit spicier than the original. It’s got some serious flavor and I can’t say I’d mind hearing his one in the clubs. Make it happen DJs? Listen to the incredible remake below.
Aluna Francis and George Reid are an unusual duo. Reid’s experimental collage of woozy basslines, quirky synths, and pitch-shifted vocal samples isn’t the most obvious choice to pair with Francis’ lush radio-friendly vocals. A few years ago his production style would have likely been restricted to obscure raves and heard by a small cult following. Thankfully, the world now seems ready to embrace pop music that’s a little more “weird” than the manufactured singles that have long dominated Top 40 charts — and AlunaGeorge is poised to capitalize on that.
When “Your Drums, Your Love” first hit blogs last summer, it was immediately clear this collaboration could work. Reid’s genius decision to sample Aluna’s vocals and work them in behind her airy verses was perfect. In under four minutes they’d become one of my favorite new groups and I couldn’t wait to hear an entire album of this stuff. A year later, the wait is finally over and I couldn’t be happier with the final product.
This album will attract a diverse crowd. Teenage girls obsessing on their first relationships will be drawn to Aluna’s love-centric lyrics and popstar aesthetic while their dorky older brothers will be impressed by George’s masterful use of all the fancy electronic production toys he has at his disposal. I also can’t help but imagine “Lost & Found” being the greatest thing to ever happen to festival goers with a taste for party drugs. That beat is just too good. In short, AlunaGeorge achieves exactly what I was hoping for from their debut: an accessible pop album that pushes boundaries and begs listeners onto the dance floor. Stream the whole thing below.
Am I obsessed with AlunaGeorge? That’s an understatement. Their debut album is by far my most anticipated album of the summer, I feel like I’ve been counting down for this moment for WAY too long. Luckily, the day is coming near and AlunaGeorge are helping us out by releasing a new track off of their debut Body Music. “Bad Idea” is fun, catchy and that typical (but in a good way!) AlunaGeorge. It’s like they refuse to allow us to listen without wanting to dance our bums off. Well, I’m not complaining about that one bit! Be sure to look out for Body Music coming out July 29 on Island Records.
Disclosure‘s debut album Settle will be in stores tomorrow. To celebrate their release we invited one of our Internet friends Alicia Ortiz to write a bit about the features on the album. Each guest appearance seems to have been chosen very particularly for their musical style and uniqueness, resulting in an album of very different sounding tracks. With this project the brothers also break some new artists, revealing them to the mainstream. These sort of reveals help us with the music discovery process, so we got Alicia to write about each artist and tell us her favorite solo song from the artist.

It’s Labor Day weekend. It’s the time of year where America lets you rest on your laurels for all the hard work you’ve been doing lately. It marks the end of summer and, in effect, the beginning of change. Not all change is bad though. In fact, I consider change a good thing. Dance music is also something I consider good. So, rather than sitting on your butt this weekend, make like the House of Pain and get out your seats and jump around. Jump up, jump up and get down. Jump. Jump. Jump!
