Womp Womp Wednesday

Ok peeps, time for some WOMP. You’re going to want to turn the bass up for these tracks. First up we’ve got a fresh Low Steppa remix of ‘Tear It Down’ by The Aston Shuffle, that is an absolute dance anthem. Next, DJ Price puts some heat on on ‘Man of the Year’ by Schoolboy Q. The FOR remix of Dot’s ‘Super Moon’ is straight vibes from start to end :). And you can’t have womps without Flosstradamus and Remedy, this remix of Flume’s ‘Insane’  starts off with a lyrically focused intro, that transitions straight into womps about a minute in. Last, but certainly not least, is a remix of SAFIA’s, ‘Paranoia, Ghosts & Other Sounds’ by PACES. The tropical-feel blended with the vocals and deep synths give what was an already incredible piece, an awesome new feel. Enjoy the womps, cheers.

The Aston Shuffle – Tear It Down (Low Steppa Remix)

Schoolboy Q – Man Of The Year (Price Remix)

Dot – Super Moon (FOR Remix)

[Music Video] Schoolboy Q – Collard Greens ft. Kendrick Lamar

Why didn’t any of you tell me about this? Right here we got the video to Schoolboy Q’s track “Collard Greens,” which apparently dropped 2 months ago and I just wasn’t paying attention. Moving on, it’s a pretty psychadelic video with Q and Kendrick just partying with multitudes of liquor and biddies, which you know, is par for the course. Also, who wants to play Spot The Awkward White Guy In The Video? (Hint: It’s Macklemore) Schoolboy Q’s debut Oxymoron coming sooner or later.

Songs of the Week: July 10-16

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to post, but I am back with a new feature on the site that I will be curating each Sunday recapping Sunset’s favorite songs of the week. If you fall behind on music any given week, we hope this post will get you back in the loop!

G Eazy – I Don’t Believe You feat. Team Robot

Young Gerald dropped a new single featuring long time contributor Team Robot (you’ll know them from “Run”). This is one to get turnt to.

Avicii – Wake Me Up feat. Aloe Blacc

If you’ve been following Avicii since his controversial Ultra performance where he blended live country music with his set, you’ll know he’s going in an interesting direction as of late. This one features Aloe “Needs a Dollar” Blacc, and fuses Avicii’s club-ready instrumental’s with country guitar and Aloe’s beautiful, jazzy voice.

Vicktor Taiwo – Only Love (Ben Howard Cover)

This one is really incredible. Vicktor Taiwo, who Arjun recently introduced to the site, cover’s Ben Howard’s song “Only Love.” Vicktor’s exceptionally unique R&B combines with the instrumental to make a dreamy, driving, gorgeous song. Perhaps my favorite from the entire week.

Milky Chance – Flashed Junk Mind

Thanks to Dusty for bringing this to SITR, Milky Chance is an artist I had formerly been unfamiliar with. They’re kind of like Feist meets Guster meets Miike Snow, but their sound is unique and a lot of fun. With an amusing, acoustic instrumental and the lead singer’s voice that recalls Noah and the Whale, these Germans are poised to become very popular in the States.

Trails and Ways – Nunca

It’s tough not to start dancing to this one. Trails and Ways describes their sound as “bossanova dreampop,” and I think that’s really the best description possible for what they have released on their new album, Trilingual. Listen to my favorite track off of that EP below, and hit the link above to stream the new EP.

Paul Otten – Breeze

Paul Otten’s “Breeze” sounds like a song that could be a breakout single this summer. Perfect for the beach and backyard barbeques, this song is simple, fun, and guarantees a good mood. Breeze will certainly be in heavy rotation in the weeks to come.
Schoolboy Q – Collard Greens feat. Kendrick Lamar

Given that this one features two of my favorite MCs of the moment, it almost makes the list by default. That being said, it clearly came with high expectations, and in my mind, it exceeded them. With great verses from the two of them, TDE kills it as always.

ScHoolboy Q – Collard Greens (ft. Kendrick Lamar)

New ScHoolboy Q!

A rap song is a marriage between producer and rapper. In the past TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment) has been one of the best labels at keeping producers in-house and churning out quality, sonically cohesive records. THC, the mind that brought Kendrick Lamar‘s “M.a.a.d City” and “Cartoons & Cereal” to life, delivered (with Gwen Bunn) a massive beat. Luckily, ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick were able to deliver equally dirty verses with even busting out some Spanish at the start of his. Q’s new album Oxymoron will be out soon.

Introducing: Isaiah Rashad

New Isaiah Rashad!

Since its formation in 2009, TDE (Top Dawg Entertainment) has grown into one of hip-hop’s finest record labels. Its roster is comprised of Kendrick Lamar (aka Benz is to me just a car), ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, and now this guy: Isaiah Rashad. The 21-year-old Chattanooga, TN resident sounds like a combination of all your favorite rappers and doesn’t really have a weak song from the past year on his SoundCloud. Give the songs below a spin, and leave a comment below about whether you think he belongs with TDE.

Favorite Moments of 2012: Sunset In The Rearview

Ahh, 2012. We laughed, we cried, but we laughed a lot. And more often than not, those laughs came at the expense of more than a couple people in the music industry. Since we got all nostalgic for last year, we decided to grab a few of our favorite moments and tack on some commentary in an attempt to make you laugh. Let us know how we did.

A$AP Rocky – Brand New Guy (feat. ScHoolboy Q)

A$AP and ScHoolboy recently dropped off their visuals to Brand New Guy, a standout off of LiveLoveA$AP. I’ve gotta be honest–although I thought A$AP might have been overly hyped when I first heard his stuff, he has quickly become one of my favorite rappers. I am more excited for his album to drop than I am for any other upcoming release. “Goldie” was incredibly dope, the clip we heard with Lana Del Ray (whom I’m typically not a fan of) was nuts, his verse on Big Spender was tight…he’s on a roll right now and doesn’t seem like he’s going to be stopping anytime soon.

Visually, there’s nothing too special about this video directed by The ICU and Rocky himself, but it’s a solid visual accompaniment regardless.

Rocky’s blowing up, and he’s only going to get hotter. Stay tuned.

Childish Gambino – Unnecessary (ft. ScHoolboy Q) (CDQ Version)

It’s obvious that Childish Gambino hates making his fans wait. That’s why, as he waits on a verse from “a certain Wu Tang member” to finish up his tape, he continues to leak free tracks onto the Internet. This one we first heard a couple of weeks ago when the radio rip surfaced. Both ScHoolboy and Gambino do their thing on the track. Gambino in particular delivers on some playful verses with a slight bite to them.

Check it. Let me know if you think this song was necessary below.

Ab-Soul – Control System (Album Stream)

control system

Ab-Soul’s Control System album represents the latest piece of work from the Top Dawg Entertainment crew. Continuing his brief stints of magnificence, Ab-Soul enlists the help from fellow members including: Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock (Black Hippy) and the result is rather impressive. Few standout tracks after a few listens are “Lust Demons” and “ILLuminate”. The Los Angeles group keeps on rollin’ after turning heads throughout the hip/hop scene within the past year. Looking forward to what the future holds for this extremely talented group. Until then, check out Control System below and be sure to purchase it on iTunes.

SchoolBoy Q ft. Dom Kennedy & Curren$y – Grooveline pt 1

ScHoolboy Q – Groovline Pt. 1 Feat. Dom Kennedy & Curren$y Prod Lex Lex Luger #HnC 1-14 by TopDawgENT

Gotta love any collaboration between Spitta and Dom Kennedy. Unfortunately this one is stream-only, but you can get it when SchoolBoy Q drops his new album, Habits and Contradictions.

Lex Luger on the beat sounding all nice and OG. This beat, to me, is the audible equivalent of eating a bacon sandwich and drinking orange juice. Whatchu think bout that, kid?
