[Music Video] Robin Thicke – Give It 2 U ft. 2 Chainz & Kendrick Lamar

Following up the (just about) consensus Song Of The Summer in “Blurred Lines” is no easy task, but Robin Thicke seems up to the task with “Give It 2 U.” The poppy, catchy-as-shit hook is supplemented spectacularly by 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar, who absolutely kills his verse. The music video is nothing to sneeze at either, featuring three HBCU step teams performing parade-style in a football stadium with… an ass float. Make sure you throw this on tonight and enjoy your time back at school before classes start, I know I will.

Songs of the Week: July 28 – August 4

1. Oliver Tank – Sound of Silence (ft. Fawn Meyers) (Posted by Arjun)

I have to be honest, when I first saw this I scoffed–“who in their right mind,” I thought to myself, “could even hope to do justice to Sound of Silence with a cover?” I was forced to change my thinking almost immediately, because what Oliver Tank and Fawn Meyers have created here is absolutely incredible. It’s less of a cover and more of a reinterpretation, and the chilling, eery production over which they sing only vaguely sounds like the original. It’s mysterious and slightly dark, and I hope Simon and/or Garfunkel hear it one day–I do not think they will be disappointed. You can catch Oliver on tour with James Blake.

2. Drake – All Me (ft. 2 Chainz and Big Sean)   (Posted by Arjun)

I literally listened to this, and this only, for an entire day on repeat when it dropped. Like GOT DAMN this is an anthem. All three verses are on point, and Drake‘s hook is catchy as always. I think  I have to give it to Tity Boi as far as best line goes…his sneezing “Givenchy” followed by “Bless you” is absolutely hilarious. Some of the stuff he comes up with is just absurd. Sean kills it, and it was originally going to be on his album, but Drake thought it was too good (it is) to give away, keeping it for his upcoming album Nothing Was the Same, dropping in September.

3. Cass Lowe – Birthmark (Posted by Arjun)

Cass Lowe is incredibly talented, and at different points in this song there were about 7 or 8 different genres I was going to peg this in. First I thought it was R&B, then I thought it was electronic, then I thought it was indie rock, the list goes on. Needless to say, Cass has mastered the ability to blend genres, and his talent carries throughout. This song has a little bit of something for every taste. Look out for Cass, I think he has the potential to be really popular. What a voice. Oh yeah PS…the video is awesome too.

4. Marlene – Bon Voyage (Posted by Alicia)

To say the least, this is not the kind of music I usually listen to. That being said, this song is (almost) embarrassingly catchy. The Swede’s music is pretty much straightforward pop music, but it has a little more spunk and flare than the majority of the stuff you will hear on the radio. Would not be surprised at all to see Marlene, and perhaps even this song, take off on the radio in the future.

5. Carousel – Close My Eyes (Posted by Jordan)

Hypothetical question: would it make me more or less cool if, when I read this title, I started singing “Dust in the Wind” to myself, sitting alone in my room? Because that may or may not have happened. Listening to this single from Carousel makes me think I’m a cool kid in the early 80’s, driving in a convertible with the prom queen, rocking a baby blue ruffled tuxedo. That’s all you need to know.

[Download MP3] Drake – All Me (ft. 2 Chainz & Big Sean)

New Drake!

Tonight, Drake asked “Would you like an anthem?” and didn’t even wait for a response! He instantly dropped new single “All Me,” featuring a soundbite from Aziz Ansari‘s character “Raaaaaaaandy” from Judd Apatow’s comedy Funny People, 2 Chainz sneezing, and Big Sean. This one also finds Drake continuing to experiment with his delivery (before fading into nothingness).

Nothing Was The Same will be out September 17.

A$AP Rocky – F**kin’ Problems (ft. 2 Chainz, Drake, Kendrick Lamar) [Music Video]

On the eve of Jay-Z Day (Happy Born Day, Hova) A$AP Rocky took to the net to present to us the artwork for his debut album Long.Live.A$AP (above) and its release date (1.15.12). He also gave us the video to one of my favorite songs from the fall, which is predictably full of rappers and bad b*tches. If you have some time and are in need of a good laugh, I recommend looking for the clean version of the video: “I LOVE BAD BAD THAT’S MY THAT’S MY PROBLEM”

2 Chainz – Birthday Song ft. Kanye West

Meh. Being the 2 Chainz fan that I am, I was crazy-excited when I heard that his new single was going to be with ‘Ye. But after further review, the ruling on the field stands: This song is overly “meh.” Maybe I’m just annoyed because it’s the clean version (Look for the dirty version to drop on iTunes in probably two weeks [This is what Kanye did with “Mercy” if I remember correctly {Wouldn’t surprise me if I didn’t, though}]), but the hook is kind of annoying too. No download yet, obviously, and as usual the lyrics are courtesy of the Dem RG Boyz. Tity 2 Necklace’s debut album Based On A T.R.U. Story is due out August 28th.

Wiz Khalifa – It’s Nothin’ (ft. 2 Chainz)

I guess this song leaked a while ago, because it’s been on my radar for a while, but we now officially have a Wizzle x Tity Boi collab. This Drumma Boy track is set to have a home on Wiz’s sophomore album O.N.I.F.C., according to Wikipedia, so take that for what it’s worth. O.N.I.F.C. is set to drop later this year, and of course check out the lyrics from RapGenius, TRUUUU

[Video] Kanye West ft. Big Sean, Pusha T & 2 Chainz – Mercy

After first watch: KiD CuDi is my favorite part. Pay attention.

After second watch: Kanye is sort of awkward.

After third watch: still one of my favorite songs.

Final Conclusion: Kanye runs the world. Seriously.

Big Sean, Pusha T, & 2 Chainz – Mercy (Live At Hot97 Summer Jam)

So Big, Push, and 2 Chainz took the stage together at Hot97 Summer Jam to perform their hit “Mercy.” Damn, I wish I had been there. Mercy’s easily one of my favorite jams right now.

What surprised me about this, though, is how Sean was completely put to shame, at least in my mind, by Pusha and 2 Chainz. Sean seems awkward, forced, and robotic up there–he barely seems into the performance. Pusha and Chainz, on the other hand, really seem to be giving it their all, and that comes through in their performance.

Pusha, especially, unloads on this. Overall really solid performance, its unfortunate Kanye wasn’t able to attend but he was in Paris performing Niggas in Paris over, and over, and over…….and over again.

Truuuuuuuueeeee! Swirv.

Justin Bieber ft. 2 Chainz, Asher Roth, & Mac Miller – Boyfriend Remix

Let’s be honest. Everyone has that ONE Justin Bieber song they like. Mine happens to be “U Smile.” Whether you hate the kid or not, someone has caught you at some point singing one of his tunes.

I happen to think Boyfriend is an okay song. His rapping is awful, but the bridge and chorus are great. Specifically the bridge because he channels his inner Justin Timberlake.

Anyways, this is an official remix as 2 Chainz, Asher Roth, and Mac gave The Biebs a remix treatment. In order of best verse: Asher > 2 Chainz > Mac. Not saying Mac’s verse was bad (I actually enjoyed it), but 2 Chainz is on a hot streak with his ad libs (TRUUUUUE), and Asher brings us back to middle school days.

2 Chainz ft. Drake – No Lie

2 Chainz + Drake = swag.

Drake stole the show with the catchy chorus, but this is a good single for 2 Chainz.

I don’t think this will do too hot on the radio waves, but it’ll do real well via blogs, YouTube, internet etc…

Kanye West ft. Big Sean, Pusha T & 2 Chainz – Mercy

Good Fridays are back.

This dropped on Friday, but because of the holiday weekend, I forgot about posting. Whoops! #LatePass

Big Sean > Kanye > 2 Chainz > Pusha in terms of who I thought had the better verse. Pusha wasn’t even that bad, but Big Sean, ‘Ye, and 2 CHAINNNNNZZZZ came to play.

White girls politican/That’s that Sarah Palin/Gettin high/Californication/I give her that D/Cause that’s where I was born and raised in.

Lambo/Mercy-lago/She go wherever I go/Wherever we go we do it pronto

I’m drunk and high at the same time/Drinkin’ champagne on the airplane.

Looks like I can’t go out on Fridays anymore until the Good Friday joint drops…just like old times and I’m not complaining!
