[Album Stream] Rolling Stone Gives ‘Born to Die’ Two Stars

I was flipping through the latest issue of Rolling Stone yesterday and stopped quickly to read the review of Lana Del Rey’s recently released album, Born to Die. Let’s just say the critique wasn’t as pretty as her lips. As Sheffield notes in his write up, much of the blogosphere–including myself–has fallen in love with Lana. Is RS drinking haterade, or are they valid when they say:

“She’s a starlet to music bloggers, who’ve been buzzing over her for the past year. But for the rest of us, she’s just another aspiring singer who wasn’t ready to make an album yet…her song doctors need to go the fuck back to med school.”

Harsh. Other “opinion leaders” like Pitchfork didn’t have great things to say about Del Rey’s debut either. What do you guys think? Is Lana’s music more hype than substance? Or, is this another case of blogs vs. ‘official’ journalism drawing territorial lines, kinda like how we’ve recently seen with Childish Gambino.

Stream Born to Die below, and let’s see what the people think.
