“A Little Bit of Time” - Rich Kid Sound System

Here’s a banger that’s reminiscent of a Chiddy Bang, a Colin Munroe hook with a rapper on the verses, a Rocky Business track…the list goes on. Credit to Confusion for spotting this one.

Hope yall had a good weekend.

“Holland” - Sufjan Stevens

I got a request for a Jack Johnson song today, and being that I’m not a HUGE Jack Johnson fan, I figured I’d put a little spin on this request for a “chill song.” Seems some people partied a little too hard after I started the Friday at Five feature and need some relaxing music for Saturday morning. I’m perfectly okay with that.

Drop A Beat…

Hope yall are as excited about the NEW Friday at Five Feature as I am. In the spirit of it [finally] being the weekend, let’s get some beats rolling.

“Kids” (Datsik Remix) - MGMT

“Fix You” (Datsik Remix) - Coldplay

“The Bully Plank” - doomtree

*Datsik has some nice dubstep remixes to classics. Once again, I’m typically not a fan of remixes, or dubstep, but these are doing it for me, because they’re not overdoing it with the beat or totally tearing apart the song. The Paper Tiger song is just great - I am a big fan of Doomtree (the label), and this is a beautiful new release that everybody needs to have. Waiting for one of the Doomtree rappers to hop on the beat!

All tracks are available for download.

New Feature: Friday at Five

I’m going to start a new feature on Sunset - it will come every Friday at 5:00 ET, and it will be a party track just in time for the weekend.

The first track to be featured includes Sonny Shotz, rapper from The Dean’s List. It’s a fun, poppy little party joint that I can totally see being played in sweaty dance clubs/bars. I just wish Ke$ha was singing on the hook rather than this guy. Just kidding - I can’t stand Ke$ha. Or can I?

Happy Friday!

“Education” (ft. Sonny Shotz of The Dean’s List) - Invigilators

“Run Away” - Luego

As I was listening to Blitzen Trapper’s Destroyer of the Void this evening, I realized I needed to go searching for similar music. Luckily, sitting right there in my email inbox was an email from Patrick Phelan, known on stage as Luego, whose folk-inspired sounds are reminiscent of Blitzen Trapper’s. Based in Durham, NC and being a Duke graduate, Luego automatically captures my attention, but it turns out to be more than just being a local and a Blue Devil that draws me in. His lyrical mastery is something that is not to be ignored - the album, Ocho, is known to tell a story from start to finish. For this reason, I encourage you to head over to iTunes and purchase the whole album.

Other song I’d recommend listening to right away: “Aint It Sad.“

Enjoy!

“July Flame” (Alvin Risk Remix) - Laura Veirs

Let’s keep this delicious remix pattern going. If this is how they’re going to be served to me, I’ll eat them all up. AND go back for seconds. I’m a fat kid in the making!

Remix!

The girl who typically doesn’t like remixes is getting smacked in the face with some spectacular remixes! This one, done by Australian artist by the name of Moonchild, is hypnotic. Can’t get enough of it. Moonchild has teleported me to a land of moonbounces, marshmallows, and cloudless skies.

Dear song,

Please continue to play in my dreams.

Yours ever so truly,

Lydia

Killer Daft Punk Cover

Just got this submission in my email. Wow. This is an awesome cover of a Daft Punk song. It’s not that this song sounds much different, but it’s turned into a bit more of an electro-dance mix. It seems to be broken down into sections, each of which adds a new element of surprise, similar to the original. What makes it stand out, though, is that it seems to pick up the pace a bit more than the original version, and thus makes it a bit more complex. Charles I keeps you guessing and entertained as he does the unthinkable: successfully takes a Daft Punk hit to the next level.
