Hoodie Allen just dropped a free track to hold us over as we await more album material. On “Nolan Ryan,” the rapper takes it back to basics–just going into a makeshift studio in a hotel room on tour and having fun with it. The result is this spontaneous and infectious rap song meant to remind people that he can rap. Like, he is a rapper, who happens to also enjoy catchy choruses and like, being a popular independent artist. My favorite part of the track comes at the end of the first verse when he says, “Rappers pretending it’s all black and white, but I ain’t got time for that clean shit / Oh you’d rather be James Dean? I would rather be me bitch,” which sounds a lot like a diss intended towards another Sunset favorite G-Eazy. If that’s actually the case, that’s fucking awesome. Rap beefs are dope.
