Listen While You Work: 6.0

Daylight Saving time always sneaks up on me. Every year, twice a year, it sits there on my calendar, but it seems as though my eyes have trained themselves not to notice it. So I thank god every time it comes around that my mom still knows me well enough to know she needs to remind me. Sure, I have devices that automatically update themselves (though now I sometimes wonder why the heck my wall clock, microwave and stove wouldn’t know to update themselves…like come on, it’s 2014!…what?), but it’s still worth knowing that there’s going to be a significant change in your days.

Everybody always says the one in the spring time is better. Spring forward. The sun stays out longer. The warm weather is on its way. Yeah yeah, you lose an hour of sleep, BUT IT’S WORTH IT.

This year, I’m ready to spring forward. I’m ready for longer days, new beginnings, and refreshed motivation. I’m starting a new job and am excited about it.

This latest Listen While You Work playlist stands for finding your new beginnings. Seek motivation. Chase your passions. Work for a reason. Let this be your soundtrack.

Listen While You Work: 5.0

Believe it or not, I still have people asking me if I have any suggestions for new music they should listen to (this happens very frequently, in fact). Perhaps it’s uppity of me to find this silly, but I’ve made it pretty well known amongst my circle of family and friends over the past five years that I absolutely love discovering music and have created a music blog as a portal to share that music. With the emergence of softwares like Spotify, it’s admittedly harder to get people to come to a blog to sort through the curated music collection, when they could just use the portal that’s downloaded onto their computer to press play and let the technology do the rest. But for the elite music seekers out there (is it cool to call us that?), we all know that not all of the gems are on Spotify. Most times, though, it’s on SoundCloud. So that’s the reason I continue to make these Listen While You Work SoundCloud collections. It’s just too good to ignore. And if we have to be spending so much time at work, we might as well make that time not just worthwhile, but enjoyable.

Enjoy this episode. I started it a long time ago, but just finished it today, so it’s actually kind of fun for me to go back and re-listen to some of the old picks that I haven’t heard in a while.

Listen While You Work: 4.0

I read a lot of articles that say email is the barrier that stands between a human and productivity. I believe it, too. I find myself going to work and struggling to get through my emails in a day’s time. What it leaves me with is time spent in meetings or reading and responding to emails. So when do I actually get work done? When I get home, mostly. And there’s nothing fun about that. So I’ve decided I’m going to start blocking time off on my calendar for a full hour to sit down and do work and not allow myself to read my emails for that hour. Probably nothing groundbreaking, but easier said than done. Good news is: I just created a new Listen While You Work playlist that’s just over an hour long, so it’ll be the perfect soundtrack for this work hour. Hope it’s helpful for you, too.

This version features music by a k u a, Arbeia, Mausi, There’s Talk, Lonely Child, Jaymes Young, THUMPERS, Lorde, Disclosure, Evan Duffy, JUNGLE, Jetsi Kain, and Arthur Beatrice.

Listen While You Work: 3.0

ListenWhileYouWork3

It’s Monday, and it’s a Monday where I’m still feeling like I’m recovering from the weekend. Considering yesterday was Cinco de Mayo, I have a feeling many of you are feeling the same way. I didn’t even make it out yesterday, because my ass was too hungover to get off the couch. But I feel for those of you who did, because trust me, I felt close to death yesterday. So if that’s you today, or hell, even if you’re a good kid just trying to get some work done, I’ve got your soundtrack. Here is the latest Listen While You Work, episode three.

This version features music from the following artists:

Listen While You Work: 2.0

Listen While You Work 1.0 started with me saying I was trying to keep my head above water at my job. I came out yesterday in a pretty personal post saying that I wasn’t going to live that way anymore. That said, I still spend many hours at work, and it’s always important to have good music to listen to at work. And so comes Episode 2 of Listen While You Work. For the most part, it’s a little more upbeat this time; you gotta keep you head up while ya work, right? This version features music from the following artists:

Listen While You Work: 1.0

Listen while you work music sunset in the rearview

While I’m trying to keep my head above water with my day job, it pains me not to be able to share every song I hear and love. Particularly because even while I work, if I’m sitting at my desk, I have to listen to music to keep the blood pumping through my veins. That’s just how I operate. And there’s a lot of stuff going into my ears. So I’ve decided I’ll try to do some of these posts where I pull some of the top songs together and make a custom playlist for you to be able to listen to while you work. So here goes…Listen While You Work: 1.0. This week features music from Peace, Vondelpark, Josh Record, Fyfe, Say Lou Lou, Wintercoats, Junip, Last Lynx, Sir Sly, Cloud Boat, Ajimal, and Niagara
