Womp Womp Wednesday
Womp Womp Wednesday

Man it’s been a while since I’ve done a Womp Womp Wednesday…thankfully, I have the perfect producer to return to the wompage with.
Aylen has quickly become one of my favorite producers. He has a unique ability to incorporate the necessary elements of the original song while at the same time completely turning the song into something all his own. His music has a massive, full sound that can’t truly be done justice unless you’re listening on amazing headphones or huge speakers.
That being said, if you don’t have such equipment, you’ll enjoy his huge sounds anyway. I think it’s only a matter of time before Aylen becomes widely recognized. His music deserves it, and his music womps too hard not to be noticed.

Wolfgang Gartner – Redline (Aylen & Kastra Remix)

M83 – Midnight City (Eric Prydz Private Remix) || Download
This one’s a bit more house than dubstep, but a banger nonetheless. Currently sitting on the top of Hype Machine charts, this one will be great for any parties this weekend. I know I’ll be dropping it when I DJ Friday night.
The Weeknd – Same Old Song (Paper Diamond Remix) || Download
This one starts with the original bass, and then Paper Diamond adds a whole new layer of filth and grime on top of it. Abel Tesfaye, better known by his stage name The Weeknd, is pretty much the only R&B I can/will listen to, so it’s pretty sick to see him dubbed out by one of my favorite new producers, Paper Diamond.
Kanye West – Can’t Tell Me Nothing (GriZ Remix) || Download
Being a Chicago boy and a huge fan of ‘Ye, I may or may not be a little biased to this song. I’ve seen GriZ before, but before this track have yet to be impressed by his work. The BPM of the acapella seems a little fast, but the production GriZ layers on top of this track is awesome, in my opinion. I’m just saying how I feel man.

Womp Womp Wednesday

Today we’ve got a new single from 5 & a Dime and a couple tracks from Masss to set of your humpday in the womp style.
5 & a Dime – M.O.O.M.B.A.H.M.A.S.H. || Download
This is a solid one from Mr. 5, although I admit the instrumental can get annoying at times. Not the kind of song I’d want to listen to while relaxing, as it would most likely be impossible to relax while listening to this song, but this would definitely set a dance party off. As usual, it samples a crazy amount of songs including I.D.G.A.F.O.S. by Dillon Francis, Channel 9 Interview of Skrillex, Rump Shaker by Wreckz-N-Effect, This Is How We Do It by Montell Jordan, Gasolina (Remix) by Pit Bull, Gold Digger by Kanye West, and Skrillex’s Reptile Theme. You know I’ve got love for that Gold Digger, Chi City anthem right there. Looking forward to the album that drops December 12th, be on the lookout for that here on Sunset.
Masss – The Catalyst (Linkin Park Remix) || Download
Masss – Mavado ft. Bugle – Set Me Free || Download
Masss is a dubstep group hailing from Tel Aviv, Israel, which in and of itself is awesome. Crazy how far dubstep has spread and how popular it has become across the world. Anyway, these guys sent me an email and I had never heard of them before. They KILL it. These are two of my favorite songs by them, but I have included further links below so that you guys can hear more from them.

Womp Womp Wednesday

I’m On One (KillaGraham Remix) - DJ Khaled ft Drake, Lil Wayne || Download
I’ve posted some KillaGraham before, and I’ve liked everything I’ve heard by him. This song has been remixed far too many times (with my favorite being the DJ Marvel Dynamic remix), but Killa G brings the womp heavy on this one. PS does anyone else think that “I ain’t went this hard since I was 18″ kind of sounds like the tagline of a Viagra commercial? Does Drake take Viagra? Ask an expert.
Paris Satisfaction (Chuckie Pass That Dutch Bootleg) – Kanye West & JAY Z vs Benny Benassi || Download
Everyone knows Benassi’s classic “Satisfaction,” and DJ Chuckie absolutely kills this blend, fitting the two songs together perfectly in a way that accentuates the best factors of either song. “No one knows what that means, but it’s provocative. It gets the people going” is easily one of the funniest samples I’ve ever heard.
Aylen – Blessed (Avicii Remix)
Aylen is a house DJ out of New Jersey. He’s got a bunch of stuff on Soundcloud that I was just shown, and with each project he gets exponentially better. This, his latest release on Soundcloud, includes house remixes of genres ranging from Paramore to Joe Jonas to Wiz Khalifa which is pretty cool (except for Joe Jonas, fuck the Jo Bros). Looking forward to seeing what he releases in the future.

Womp Womp Womp Wednesday Presented by Marvin Gaye

Even the soul master himself gets down and dirty with the womps.
Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On (Nit Grit Remix)
Download “What’s Going On”
What’s Going on is one of my favorite songs of all time, so Nit Grit remixing it was not something I felt OK with at first–I thought the classic would be disparaged by the womp. Not the case. Saw it live this Sunday in Lewiston, ME when Nit Grit opened up for Pretty Lights; filthy would be an understatement.
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (Van O Remix)
Download “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”
This one’s a little less wompy and a little more housey, but filthy none the less. Keep’s just enough of the original so you can still sense it’s presence, but definitely a take on this song I’ve never heard or imagined. Awesome.
Cheers to the late great Marvin, and of course Tammy Tarrell.
Bullshittin On My Coffee Break (Big Sean vs Zeds Dead) – The Jane Doze
Download “Bullshittin On My Coffee Break”
Also, as a toast to them, here’s a little Zed’s Dead/Big Sean mashup. UNGH.

Womp Womp Wednesday

The other day, Bassnectar released a new remixtape. It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a new one from him, so I was excited to see what he would do. Well, as always, he brought some serious womp.
In my mind, Bassnectar is paralleled by only maybe Skrillex in terms of ingeniousness when it comes to heavy bass music. Their samples, their drops, their buildups…always, always, always on point.
The ‘nectar seems to get spicier with each project Lorin releases…he seems to be constantly touring, so it’s no surprise it took him a while to get this out. That being said, if you ever get the chance to see Lorin do his thing live, go to that. Don’t ask questions, just go.
Listen to the entire thing below, or download and break up songs individually. Personal favorites? In Bloom or YES.

Thirsty Thursday

So I posted this last night, except for the fact that it never posted. Just, ya know, disappeared. Anyways…
Got a big one for you today to mark my return…now that the summer’s over, I’m back for good. Let’s do the damn thing.
Otherside (Tim Mason Remix) – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Dope little house remix of the RHCP classic for you guys here. This one starts off high energy right from the start, with some synth reminiscent of the mau5 or Avicii. Big fan of the way they twist the vocals a little bit, and a bigger fan of how they incorporate Flea’s filthy baseline from the original.
Download “Otherside”
Seven Nation Army (The Glitch Mob Remix) – The White Stripes
Were you guys as torn apart by The White Stripes breaking up as I was? My favorite non-original version of this song is still The Flaming Lips tearing it up in Australia , but this is a close second. Glitch Mob kills it per usual, and I especially love how they drop the womb right when the guitar would drop after the verse.
Download “Seven Nation Army”
Sunshine – David Guetta & Avicii
So not much introduction needed on this one, just two titans of house music getting together to blow some got damn minds.

Womp Womp Wednesday

What’s up, party people? Broadcasting to you live from the home of alliteration since 2009, this Womp Womp Wednesday I’m subbing in for D Prep‘s flow, which is currently on the road with Hoodie Allen, Fortune Family and a bunch of other bloggers nervous about what their potluck roommate is gonna be like in the dorms (nudist/vegan?? my roommate had really bad gas).
I can’t pretend to be an expert of the ‘Womp Womp’ genre, but here are 5 songs that I could see people recklessly gyrating to. And the dry humping.. All of these songs have some element of that ‘wobble’ that the kids go crazy for, so strap on some studio headphones or plug the auxiliary chord from your high end stereo equipment into your Zune for these. Not for computer speakers!!! PS: FLOCKA!
Emalkay – Fabrication
Blue Foundation – Eyes On Fire (Zed’s Dead Remix)
Hudsone Mowhawke – Thunder Bay
Waka Flocka x Darq E Freaker – Cherryade (Sinden Edit)
BONUS WOMP:
Lunice – I See You (Girl Unit Remix)

Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (The Oos and Ahhs Remix)
Lykke Li is a goddess. Absolute goddess. Throw a little womp in there courtesy of the Oos and Ahhs, and you’ve got some dankness.
Download “I Follow Rivers”
The Bia’s Revenge (Styles&Complete Mashup) – Lil Jon vs. Figure
Styles and Complete have been featured on a couple different WWW’s, and now they’re back with a remix of Lil Jon. Who doesn’t like Lil Jon? YEAHHHHHHH. WHAT?????
Download “The Bia’s Revenge”
Hedwig’s Theme (Virtual Boy Dubstep Remix) – Harry Potter
The only time I’ve ever cried, in my entire life, is when I saw Hedwig die in Harry Potter. Cried for two and a half weeks, nearly died of dehydration. If you don’t like this (at least the idea…musically, perhaps it’s just a meh) then you have no soul. Bummer.

Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man (Hot Young Girls Make Lovestep Remix)
I’m a big Mumford & Sons fan (although I need some more new material from them), and this was a really cool remix to hear. This remix puts a very unique twist on the song, and perhaps the coolest part is when they blend the womp with the strumming of the original guitar track. I usually don’t like remixes of songs like this, but this one was extremely will done. Sounds awesome to me. Turn up the bass and kick back.
Lady Gaga – The Edge of Glory (Porter Robinson Remix)
Well this one just goes off, plain and simple. Porter Robinson starts it a little slow, letting it build up. Then, right around 2:30, he lets it drop. Play this at a rave or in a club, that’s when people start losing it. Porter’s going to be a big, big name in the club scene.
Chris Brown ft. Busta Rhymes and Lil Wayne – Look At Me Now (Manila Killa Bootleg)
For me as a DJ, this is an extremely useful song. Shouts to DJ Bahler for showing it to me, dude’s the man. This is exactly the kind of song I drop right as a hit peaks in my set. It gets going super fast, Busta spits 1200 words per minute, and the groove of the song is awesome. Right at 3:04, I would drop something MASSIVE, that’s just too perfect of a lead into a song. That’s when I’d bring out the wompiest wompers I have and watch faces melt.

DJ Bahler – Let Go (Parisian Nightsuit)
My old buddy DJ Bahler hit me up this fine Wednesday morning with a remix he did that blends Kanye’s Power, Paper Diamond’s remix of Power, Gambino’s Freaks and Geeks, and a few other songs. Basically, filth multiplied by filth equals exponentially larger amounts of filth. BAHLINNNNNNNN’
Download “Let Go (Parisian Nightsuit)”
Knuck if You Buck (Styles&Complete Remix) – Crime Mob
Styles has been posted on Womp Womp Wednesday posts a few times now, and I really dig his glitch sound. He makes some pretty crazy womp noises (IE that frog sound), and almost all of his remixes make me want to get in a moshpit and just lose it. This is definitely a track I will drop live next time I spin.
Download “Knuck if You Buck”
Ruffneck (The SoniXx Remix) – Skrillex
So I’m a HUGE Skrillex fan (which is ideal because he’s going to Lollapalooza and I will probably have media passes to Lolla again this year), and I know SoniXx has remixed a few of his songs, but this might be my favorite of his remixes. I really like the vocal samples in this song, especially the “CALL 911!” part. Dopeness.

Kid Cudi – Falling Star (R3K Remix)
My buddy was playing this at a party last night and everyone was really feeling it–I had never heard it but asked him what it was and immediately downloaded it. Been listening to it all day. Awesome, easy-going club/trance feel to this one that’s hard not to groove with. Takes the acapella from Cudi’s “Symphonies” and really turns it into something completely new. Dope. The drop into the beat is really well timed.

Sound Remedy – FUCK BILL (Feat. Tyler, The Creator)
Random Disclaimer: Hey, don’t do anything that I say in this song. OK? It’s fucking fiction. If anything happens, don’t fucking blame me, white America. FUCK BILL O’REILLY
Musically, I’m not sure how great this one is, but I still love it. FUCK IT, we’ll do it live.

Tinie Tempah – Wonderman ft. Ellie Goulding (Jacob Plant remix)
I really like Ellie Goulding, I really like British MC Tinie Tempah, and I really like the womp. Through the transitive property, I like this song. Enjoy.
