As I’ve said before, I’m always here for some new Jazz Cartier. And, finally, we have the video for his recent single, “New Religion.” The track originally dropped just a few hours before Drake famously dropped his If You’re Reading This, It’s Too Late album, and I’ve been listening to it track just as much. The Fantavious Fritz-directed video finds Jacuzzi running through the Six, sans woes, and keeping the turn up confined to the living room. Check out the video, and come back here for Jazz’s Marauding In Paradise, due this April.
Every year, Comic Relief, a charity based in Britain, hosts a telethon for its Red Nose Day event, aimed to raise awareness and cash for hunger in Africa. This year, they got a boost from award-winners Sam Smith and John Legend, who recorded a beautiful duet version of Smith’s “Lay Me Down” to help promote the cause.
This year, Red Nose Day is Friday, March 13th. If you are able, please consider donating.
Jazz Cartier‘s had himself a hell of a few months. Having taken a while off from dropping music, Jazz made a run through the fall with a few hot singles, and keeps that momentum going with the trap-inspired “New Religion.” I’ll tell you right now, as a fan of tracks that make me want to jump on a couch and belt them out, this one is going to be in heavy rotation for the foreseeable future. Jazz’s sophomore effort “Marauding In Paradise” can’t come soon enough.
DJ Mustard is usually known for his popular Bay Area-hyphy sound, but today he dropped off an upbeat, airy remix of the Rihanna/Kanye/Sir Paul McCartney banger. Where the original features some strings that are standard for the Beatle, Mustard delivers a remix that’s closer to something we’d expect to hear from Sunset favorite Kygo. If this is the sound Mustard’s going for his next album, sign me up.
Big Sean‘s had himself a hell of a few hours. Last night, he was featured on the debut single from Meek Mill’s sophomore album (which is also a banger), and late last night he dropped a single of his own. “Blessings” is a bit darker then we’re used to hearing from Sean, but anything with Drake and Kanye West features is destined for greatness. Dark Sky Paradise drops on 2/24.
Meek Mill has been KILLING it since he got out of jail, and the visuals for “B Boy” are only keeping the ball rolling. The first single from Meek’s sophomore effort Dreams Worth More Than Money, the video finds Meek with Big Sean and A$AP Ferg (all three of which murder this track, by the by) living the dream lifestyle. The beat ain’t too shabby, either. Props to Illroots for the sick pic, as well.
WOOOOOOO. Jazz Cartier has been quiet for a while now, but today he decided to blow up the spot with his latest single “Set Fire.” The visuals show Jazz doing his favorite (or favourite, since yer boi is from Toronto) thing, and that’s blowing up with his friends, the Get Home Safe crew. Jazz’s frequent collaborator, Lantz, is all over the beat and turned in one of the eeriest efforts you’ve heard in a long time.
Everything’s pointing towards this being the start of something huge for Jacuzzi, so make sure you keep tabs on him and all of Get Home Safe (and if you’re in TO try and get to one of their parties, it’s on my list).
I DON’T GIVE A F*CK
PARTYNEXTDOOR is here to save the summer with his latest featuring label-head Drake. PND took to Instagram today to announce the release date for his sophomore effort PARTYNEXTDOOR Two and also let loose” a couple of iTunes pre-order tracks in the previously-heard “Her Way” and this banger “Recognize.” He’s already dropped my favorite track of 2014 in “Persian Rugs” and PND 2 is shaping up to be one of my favorite projects of the year. Drops July 29th btw also please follow me on Twitter *prayer hands emoji*
One of my favorite track’s from Future’s sophomore effort, “Honest,” was his collab with Kanye about their trophy wives (Future is married to Ciara and if you don’t know who Kanye is married to then I just don’t know man); a lot of people found it to be fairly misogynistic and/or sexist (it’s been a long day and I can’t remember if those are actually the same thing) but it struck me as an awesome love ballad.
Different Sleep took the banger and made it into a soft, melodic track that is great for winding down at night. The piano he added to the hook reminds me of 90s pop music and it’s awesome.
I’ve been slacking hardcore, you guys. Through no one’s fault but my own, I’ve had to put writing on the back burner for a long time now, and I’m really, really disappointed in myself for that. Not only because I haven’t been putting forth the effort that you guys deserve, but because this track here has been sitting in my inbox forEVER (Squints from “The Sandlot” voice) and you haven’t been able to play it all summer.
Academy is a new duo making an awesome kind of airy, laid-back hip-hop. But it isn’t really hip-hop, and it also isn’t really indie, but it’s definitely perfect for playing with your windows down this summer. You can download the track below and make sure you pick up their EP “Moving Methods” which dropped TODAY.
In a surprisingly-not April Fools’ Day joke, Drake dropped off a little Lauryn Hill-sampling track via the OVO blog. Nothing too crazy to be honest (he won’t beat “Trophies” for a while, if you ask me) but he does name-drop our favorite Chance The Rapper which is pretty cool. Also, it looks like the Drake/Johnny Football bromance is in full swing and will not slow down any time soon.
