Don’t Stand So Close

MUSIC VIDEO: “Don’t Stand So Close” (ft. Styles P) – Consequence

I was reading an op-ed the other day on NPR’s website that talked about the issue of juveniles facing life in prison. This song reminded me of that, because at the end of it, Cons basically tells his friend that he hopes he can start another life after what he’s done. Now, I don’t want to get too philosophical or opinionated here, but I like that Consequence is saying this. I was sort of laughing at this song at first, because the acting in the video is terrible and the rhyming isn’t all that great…but then I realized that I my eyes were glued to the video. Why? Because the storyline caught my attention. Mainly, I think, because it’s pretty blunt. Stuff like this happens, but I have to wonder…does somebody get the chance to start a new life after committing a crime? I have to hope that kids who have yet to hit puberty are given this opportunity.
