Give Up The Fright – Buckman Coe
“Give Up The Fright” – Buckman Coe

Sweet guitar strumming and picking that’s extremely easy on the ears is something I can always be a sucker for. Then, when sweet, easy-listening, guitar strumming and picking is paired with a voice that sways just above the instrumental like a boat perfectly riding the waves, reluctant to make a splash (forgive my corny simile here…I’m posting this while on vacation at the beach)…well, that, my friends, is something that just plain gets to me. Straight to the heart. Nothing sharp, mind you. Just softness to the soul. This is why I never cease to listen to Jeff Buckley, Paul Simon (or Simon and Garfunkel together, for that matter), Chris Martin of Coldplay, Ben Harper…any of the above. Well, luckily I’ve been sent some of this brand of music to listen to while I’m on the beach. And the only crashing I hear is the actual waves, because this man’s voice is just about as smooth over the instrumentals as it gets. And, offffff course, he has beautiful album art. Once again, gets me every time. Ugh.
More about Buckman Coe, for those who are interested. The press release says it best, to be honest.
Produced completely independently and without commercial support, “Latest Waking” represents an artist who, without years of training or formal development, has exposed himself completely, offering listeners a sincere, honest, and unaffected first look into the mind of this burgeoning musician. With beautiful vocal melodies complementing lush soundscapes that evoke the artist’s coastal Vancouver upbringing, “Latest Waking” is a testament to what you can do in the studio without fancy equipment and funding, but with creativity, innovation, a stripped-down approach, and grade-A songwriting.
A relative newcomer to the music industry, Rick Buckman’s history as a student of yoga, mental and physical therapy, and ecopsychology, which connects psychology and ecology, is what informs his songwriting and allows the artist to connect with the listener on a base level. “Latest Waking” represents a turning point in the career of the artist, but Buckman’s motivation, the desire to help people both mentally and physically, remains the common denominator, and the driving force behind his work.
That about does it. If you want more of this guy’s music or story, check out his website. Enjoy your week, I’ll be back posting on a more regular basis when I’m back home!
