e-dubble – Written Thursdays

posted by: Lydia New Music Daily

e-dubble first came into my life on a simple Friday afternoon. There I was, excited for a Friday and the weekend, completely oblivious to the fact that I was soon to be introduced to one of the artists who would dominate Friday posts on Sunset in the Rearview for weeks to come. When we “met,” it was as though a light was shone down on me, reminding me that true hip hop exists without boundaries or prerequisites. From that point forward, I was convinced that it’s possible for white men to rap without needing to cut corners or put on a facade. And it was proven that the Do-It-Yourself mentality, in this case one man producing the beat, writing the raps, and recording the song from his home studio, can be successfully carried out. Essentially, e-dubble came to me in the form of an epiphany.

What’s not to be forgotten is that e-dubble has been around for much longer than Sunset has given him credit for. Incase you were unaware, his Freestyle Fridays existed for 53 weeks. In that time, he sampled artists ranging from Lykke Li to Yacht to Regina Spektor to Tom Petty all the way to the Black Keys, Health, and even Guns N Roses. And to end with a bang, his last Freestyle Friday sampled his own song. One of his songs has been featured on ESPN, and another was used for a promotional video for NBC’s hit series, “Parks And Recreation.”

Today marks the day when e-dubble is releasing a mixtape called Written Thursday. Sunset in the Rearview is lucky enough to be one of the official sponsors of the mixtape, alongside Pigeons and Planes and Brobible. To me, this day is about more than just the quality of the music. It’s a reminder that you can reach for your dreams. If you’d have asked me two years ago if I thought I would be sponsoring a mixtape with P&P and Brobible, I’d have laughed in your face. And something tells me that if you approached e-dubble after his second Freestyle Friday release that averaged 20 plays and maybe one download a day if he would finish the series with nearly 100,000 downloads from his site alone, I’m willing to bet that he, too, would laugh in your face. But that’s what’s fun about this life. And if we’re here to have fun, hell, we might as well set it to a fun little playlist. So here are two of my favorite tracks off of Written Thursday, which will officially be released later this afternoon.

Important note: Download the mixtape here and share a link to this post on Facebook including the text “@e-dubble” or Tweet this link using “@edubhiphop” and you will be entered to win a $25 iTunes giftcard.
