Sometimes I think my mind is a little bit like a jungle gym. I used to LOVE jungle gyms when I was little. But then one day I got lost in an enclosed and elevated plastic tube that kids like to crawl around in, and I’ve been afraid of them ever since. Luckily, I’m not afraid of my own jungle gym of a mind. I think it’s doing alright, in fact. Though things do easily get lost in there. It’s also just a mix of so many different things. Yesterday I posted a hip hop podcast, saying in a past life I was a rap star. Today, I need the day to slow down a bit, so I’m giving you some Liz Janes. From one extreme to another, just like that.
This is the first full-length from Liz Janes in five years. She’s signed with Asthmatic Kitty, the same record label that Sufjan Stevens is under. This is her third full-length, titled Say Goodbye, and it’s a collection of 11 songs tinged with soul sounds and sprinkled with messages telling us to stay vulnerable and gentle despite the brutality and viciousness that can exist in this world. This is the first single from Say Goodbye, and it’s absolutely stunning. Perfect for my Sunday that needs to slow down. The entire album is out December 7th via Asthmatic Kitty.
