The annual Troika Music Festival starts tonight, and I’m super excited about it. Thought I’d give yall a quick preview of some of the shows I’m going to see tonight.
I’ll be catching three acts all at the same venue. First up, Old Bricks. To be honest, I haven’t listened to too much of their music. But what I have heard is nice, fitting for the colder weather. This song off their latest album, Bastard Colors, released through local label Grip Tapes, is cozy and nostalgic. Its a bit haunting, but perhaps that makes it all the more wintery.
Next, Veelee. This is the band I’m really going to the venue to see. They just came out with their second release, The Future Sight, also through local label Grip Tapes. Their music is sporadic and fun, and they’re definitely showing major potential among the growing group of burgeoning local bands. This song below is one of my favorites, and I can already promise you, I’ll be jumping up and down singing along when they play it.
Last up tonight is I Was Totally Destroying It. I like this band a lot. At times they seem a little punkish to me, but not in a form too intense for my liking. This song below sums it up perfectly, I think. This desire to be badass that they talk about, they’ve already got that covered. “I want to be young / and I will scream at the top of my lungs.” And it doesn’t even take them screaming this at the top of their lungs for me to believe it.
